Simon Cowell is negotiating a $100million-a-year American Idol contract to establish him as the highest paid star in TV history.By sealing the US deal with Fox, Cowell will quadruple his current 25million pounds a year, which means that he would rake in a whopping 2.2million pounds an hour on screen.
“The word went out from on high to pay Simon what he needs,” said a FOX insider.
“Without him the show would be a shadow of itself. And without American Idol we’re in the dumper.”
But Simon Cowell is denying recent reports that he has been offered $144 million to stay on with 'American Idol' past next season.
"I wish! Come off it," Simon tells 'Extra'. "It's absolute nonsense... crazy, crazy nonsense. It's just speculation. Not true. Nothing has been signed."
"There hasn't been a deal done. But we're talking to Fox and we have a very good relationship with them. As to what we're going to do ongoing over a number of different bits and pieces... we'll see... we are having conversations."
